DGP Gaurav Yadav kicks off the National Equestrian Championship 2025 (Tent Pegging) in Jalandhar.
Punjab, DGP Gaurav Yadav, inaugurated the National Equestrian Championship-2025 (Tent Pegging) at the Punjab Police Academy (PAP) Campus in Jalandhar on Saturday. The event, organized by Punjab Police, features 15 teams representing state police forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the Army, Navy, and private clubs, all competing for the championship title, which concludes on February 23.
DGP Gaurav Yadav expressed pride in Punjab Police hosting this prestigious event under the Equestrian Federation of India, bringing together 15 teams, 125 horses, and top riders nationwide. Wishing success to Punjab Police’s 20-member equestrian team, led by DIG Administration PAP Inderbir Singh and participating with 24 horses, he highlighted a historic milestone—an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer qualifying for and competing in the National Equestrian Championship for the first time.
International jury members appointed by the Equestrian Federation of India, New Delhi, will oversee and judge the championship, which will also feature 15-20 international players. DGP Gaurav Yadav emphasized that this event is a tribute to skill, discipline, and tradition, making it even more special with the participation of an IPS officer at the national level.
Top-performing participants from this championship will be considered for selection in the Indian team for international competitions in 2025-26. As the Chief Patron of the event, DGP Gaurav Yadav invited the public and equestrian enthusiasts to witness the championship, which is open to all without ticketed entry.
The championship, held under the Equestrian Federation of India’s guidance, will see 125 riders and an equal number of horses compete. This is the third time the PAP Campus in Jalandhar has hosted the event, previously held in 2016 and 2017.
Senior officers, including Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) MF Farooqui as Chairman, DIG Inderbir Singh as Organizing Secretary, and Commandant 7th Battalion PAP Gurtejinder Singh as Show Secretary, are overseeing the event’s organization.
