In a newly released behind-the-scenes breakdown, Sheeran walked fans through the making of the ‘Sapphire’ music video. Starting in the heart of Old Delhi, Sheeran described weaving through crowded spice markets, dodging traffic, and adjusting to the sensory overload. “All of us were wearing masks because of the strong smell of the spices, and at one point I took mine off and wondered, ‘How bad could it be?’ Instantaneously I was coughing my lungs out,” he shared, laughing at the memory.
Another memorable moment in the ‘Sapphire’ music video shows Ed Sheeran on a beach, which he jokingly described as his “Chris Martin singing Yellow on the beach” moment. He also visited the epic sets of Baahubali, expressing his admiration for Indian cinema: “That is a good movie; it is so epic,” he said, inviting a crew member to watch it with him.
The biggest surprise for fans came with the cameo by Shah Rukh Khan. Sheeran revealed that the idea for Khan’s appearance in the ‘Sapphire’ music video actually came from the actor himself. “He’s the only person I don’t need to give context for—everyone knows him,” Sheeran said, adding that they jammed together for hours during filming. “We played for like three hours… just music and fun. It was amazing.”
Arijit Singh also made a special appearance in the ‘Sapphire’ music video, adding another layer of cultural authenticity and musical depth. Sheeran praised the ease and chemistry of the collaboration, calling it a genuine highlight of his visit.
