Gopal Italia warns that rising gun licenses in Gujarat show citizens no longer trust police for personal safety, highlighting serious security concerns.
In a recent press conference, AAP MLA Gopal Italia highlighted growing concerns over public safety in Gujarat, citing a sharp rise in gun licenses. According to Italia, Ahmedabad and Surat alone have nearly 8,000 individuals holding revolver licenses for personal protection, with more than 1,000 new applications pending. This reflects a growing trend where citizens are taking their safety into their own hands due to a lack of trust in police and government protection.
Gopal Italia warned that the situation indicates an emerging Gujarat gun licenses and security issue similar to the “gun culture” seen in states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. He emphasized that if the government effectively ensured public safety, there would be no need for such a large number of citizens to acquire firearms for self-defense.
During the press conference, Italia also criticized the police, alleging that law enforcement is being used to intimidate and suppress AAP workers and candidates rather than protect citizens. In several districts, activists have been threatened, had their devices searched, and were forced to provide election-related data. Italia pointed out instances in Surendranagar and other areas where party workers faced physical assault and political harassment.

“The reality is clear,” Italia said. “The police system is failing to ensure citizen safety, forcing people to obtain gun licenses for personal protection. This is why the Gujarat gun licenses and security situation has become a matter of concern.”
Italia urged the public to support AAP, stressing that the party is fighting for truth, justice, and citizens’ rights. “We will not be intimidated by threats from any SP or IG,” he said, reinforcing the message that AAP is prepared to stand firm for public safety and transparency.
As more Gujaratis apply for firearms, the issue of Gujarat gun licenses and security is gaining national attention, highlighting a serious gap in law enforcement and citizen protection.
