Haryana announces reservation for ex-Agniveers, including 20% in specified posts, 5% in other Group-C and 1% in skill-based Group-B jobs from Sept 1.
The Haryana government has taken a significant step to expand employment opportunities for former ex-Agniveers by introducing horizontal reservation in direct recruitment to various government posts. The decision is aimed at helping ex-Agniveers transition into civilian employment after completing their service under the Agnipath scheme.
Under the new policy, ex-Agniveers will receive 20% horizontal reservation in specified government posts filled through direct recruitment. The move is expected to create additional opportunities for former Agniveers seeking careers in the state government sector.
Additional Reservation for Group-C and Group-B Posts
The government has also introduced separate reservation provisions for other categories of posts. Ex-Agniveers will be eligible for 5% horizontal reservation in other Group-C posts.

For Group-B positions connected with skill specialisations, the government has provided 1% horizontal reservation for former Agniveers. These provisions are intended to make use of the skills, discipline and experience gained by personnel during their military service.
New Rules to Come Into Effect From September 1
Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi has issued detailed instructions regarding the implementation of the new reservation framework. According to the directions, the revised system will come into force from September 1, 2026.
The policy is expected to provide a structured employment pathway for ex-Agniveers and improve their access to government recruitment opportunities in Haryana.
Boost to Post-Service Employment Opportunities
The Haryana government’s decision on ex-Agniveers comes as an important employment measure for personnel completing their tenure under the Agnipath recruitment system. The horizontal reservation will apply within the relevant recruitment categories, allowing eligible former Agniveers to compete for designated posts under the newly announced provisions.
With the policy becoming effective on September 1, ex-Agniveers looking for government jobs in Haryana will have additional opportunities across eligible Group-C, Group-B and other specified positions. The detailed instructions issued by the Chief Secretary will guide departments in implementing the reservation provisions during direct recruitment.
The move is likely to strengthen the employment support available to former Agniveers while enabling the state government to benefit from their military training, discipline and specialised skills.
