India and Australia have strengthened their sports partnership with the launch of a future-focused roadmap aimed at expanding cooperation across high-performance sports, technology, research, major events, and women’s participation in sports.
The India-Australia Sports Collaboration roadmap builds on the 2023 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Sports and identifies key areas where both countries can work together to develop stronger sporting ecosystems and create new opportunities for athletes, coaches, institutions, and businesses.
Focus on High-Performance Sports and Athlete Development
The roadmap highlights capacity building as a major priority under the India-Australia Sports Collaboration framework. Both countries will explore opportunities to share best practices in operating high-performance sports centres, coach development programmes, para-sports support, and physical education initiatives.
Australia’s expertise in areas such as sports science, athlete performance, coaching systems, and para-sport classification will be shared with Indian sporting institutions. The partnership will also encourage exchanges between coaches, educators, universities, and sports organisations.
Sports Science, Technology and Research Partnership
A key component of the India-Australia Sports Collaboration initiative is joint research and innovation in sports science and technology. Universities and research institutions from both countries will explore partnerships in areas including athlete performance analytics, injury prevention, sports nutrition, recovery methods, wearable technology, and para-sport development.

The collaboration will also support efforts related to sports integrity and anti-doping initiatives through engagement with international organisations.
Preparing for Commonwealth Games, Olympics and Major Events
The roadmap comes at a time when both nations are preparing for major global sporting events, including the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Under the India-Australia Sports Collaboration plan, sporting bodies from both countries will exchange knowledge on hosting major events, managing infrastructure, and creating opportunities for athletes through competitions and training partnerships.
The roadmap also encourages cooperation between cricket bodies, including discussions around expanding international sporting events and promoting greater engagement between India and Australia.
Boost to Sports Industry and Women’s Participation
The partnership will also promote collaboration between Indian and Australian companies in sports equipment manufacturing, sports media, broadcasting, event management, and sports technology startups.
Another important focus area of the India-Australia Sports Collaboration roadmap is empowering women in sports. Both countries will work on initiatives supporting women’s leadership, participation, health, and high-performance opportunities through tournaments and development programmes.
The India-Australia sports partnership aims to create long-term benefits by connecting communities, supporting athletes, and building stronger sporting ties between the two nations.
