Palwal KMP Expressway accident leaves six pilgrims dead and 14 injured after their van collides with a truck near Maheshpur village.
At least six people were killed and 14 others injured after a passenger van carrying pilgrims collided with a truck on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway near Maheshpur village in Palwal early Tuesday morning.
The Palwal KMP Expressway Accident occurred at around 5:30 am, when the pilgrims were reportedly travelling towards Mathura after visiting religious sites in Rajasthan. Police said the truck involved in the crash was allegedly parked on the roadside.
Van Carrying Pilgrims Crashes Into Parked Truck
According to police, the van carrying the pilgrims rammed into the truck on the expressway. The collision was so severe that the vehicle was badly damaged and several passengers became trapped inside.
Police identified the deceased as Vijay Singh, Raj Kumar, Reshma Devi, Kamla Devi, Sudha and Mahesh. The injured were taken to Civil Hospital in Palwal for treatment.
The Palwal KMP Expressway Accident has raised concerns over vehicles being left on the roadside of the busy expressway, particularly during the night and early morning hours.
Truck Driver Allegedly Fled From the Spot
Inspector Hari Kishan, SHO of Palwal Sadar police station, said that immediately after the collision, the driver of the truck allegedly moved the vehicle and fled from the location.
Police are now examining CCTV footage from the expressway to identify the truck and determine its registration number. Officials said efforts are underway to trace the driver.
An FIR is also in the process of being registered in connection with the incident.
Pilgrims Were Returning From Rajasthan
Police officials said around 20 people from Kishanpur Muraiya, Makoaya, Chanda and nearby villages in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district had hired the van for a religious journey.
The group had travelled to Rajasthan, where they visited Khatu Shyam Temple in Sikar and Salasar Balaji Temple in Churu on Monday.
After completing the pilgrimage, the group was travelling towards Mathura through Palwal. Their plan was to visit Vrindavan when the Palwal KMP Expressway Accident took place.

Several Passengers Were Asleep
According to a senior police officer, many passengers were sleeping when the collision occurred. The impact caused extensive damage to the van, making the rescue operation difficult.
Several victims were trapped inside the wrecked vehicle. Police officials said it took around 20 to 40 minutes to extricate some of the deceased from the damaged van.
The van had reportedly been modified with two sleeping decks in its rear section to accommodate the pilgrims during their journey.
Rescue Teams Reached the Spot
Following the crash, emergency response teams, police personnel, ambulances and patrol teams associated with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) reached the accident site.
The injured were rescued and transported to Civil Hospital, Palwal. Officials said some of the injured victims were in critical condition and could be shifted to other hospitals if advanced treatment is required.
The Palwal KMP Expressway Accident has prompted police to focus on the circumstances surrounding the truck’s roadside parking and the subsequent disappearance of its driver.
Investigation Underway
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal crash. CCTV footage from the KMP Expressway is being reviewed to establish the truck’s identity and trace the driver.
The investigation will also examine how the truck was positioned on the expressway and whether safety regulations were violated.
