PM Modi paid tribute on Hul Divas to Santhal warriors, honoring their bravery in the 1855 rebellion against British colonial rule.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid heartfelt tribute to the brave Santhal warriors on the occasion of ‘Hul Divas’, commemorating the historic Santhal Rebellion of 1855.

In his message on social media platform X, the Prime Minister described Hul Divas as a powerful reminder of the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of India’s tribal communities, who have always stood firm in defense of the motherland.

He specifically honored the legendary leaders of the uprising—Sido and Kanhu Murmu, along with Chand and Bhairav Murmu, and the courageous sisters Phulo and Jhano—who led the resistance against British colonial rule in the Chota Nagpur region.

PM Modi said that the Santhal uprising reflects the indomitable spirit of tribal society, which has consistently shown readiness to sacrifice for the protection of its land, dignity, and rights. He added that the legacy of these bravehearts continues to inspire generations across the country.

The Santhal Rebellion, also known as the ‘Santhal Hul’, was launched in 1855 against the exploitative policies and injustices of British colonial authorities. It is regarded as one of the most significant early resistance movements against colonial rule, even before the Revolt of 1857.

Although the uprising was eventually suppressed by British forces, resulting in the loss of thousands of tribal lives, it remains a landmark chapter in India’s freedom struggle.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the story of sacrifice and resistance by tribal heroes will always strengthen the nation’s spirit and inspire unity, pride, and resilience among citizens.
