Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met newly appointed NITI Aayog Full-Time Member Dr Gobardhan Das, appreciating his inspiring life journey and significant contributions in the field of public health, immunology, and scientific research. The meeting highlighted India’s growing focus on research-driven policy-making.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Met Prof. Gobardhan Das Ji this morning. His personal life journey is very inspiring. Every struggle he faced only strengthened his commitment to serve society and make it free from suffering.” The Prime Minister further added that Dr Das’ academic excellence and research experience will greatly strengthen India’s policy-making framework.
Dr Gobardhan Das, Director of IISER Bhopal, is a well-known molecular scientist with nearly three decades of experience in immunology, infectious diseases, and cell biology. His recent induction into NITI Aayog as a Full-Time Member is seen as a key step towards integrating scientific expertise into national development planning.

His inclusion comes at a crucial time when India is strengthening long-term strategies aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, focusing on inclusive and sustainable growth. Dr Das emphasized that national progress must ensure that no citizen is left behind, highlighting the importance of bridging advanced research with grassroots development.
Speaking in Kolkata, Dr Das expressed gratitude over his appointment, calling it a proud moment for West Bengal. He said that his role in NITI Aayog will focus on building a development model that connects science, innovation, and public welfare to benefit rural and marginalized communities.
“Our country is moving forward rapidly. We must work across all sectors to build a developed India where every citizen benefits from progress,” he stated, reinforcing his commitment to inclusive development.
The Prime Minister also congratulated other newly appointed members, including Dr Ashok Lahiri as Vice Chairperson, along with Dr Rajiv Gauba, Prof K V Raju, Prof Abhay Karandikar, and Dr M Srinivas.
