Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann on Friday emphasized the importance of a strategic collaboration between Punjab and the United Kingdom to position the state as a leading hub for investment and manufacturing.
During a high-level meeting in Chandigarh with a delegation from the UK High Commission, led by Deputy High Commissioner Alba Smeriglio, CM Bhagwant Mann highlighted the potential of Punjab, particularly Mohali, as one of the world’s most efficiently planned cities. He underscored the state’s readiness to support UK students seeking educational and professional opportunities through legal and safe channels.
CM Bhagwant Mann stressed strengthening economic ties and cooperation between Punjab and the UK, inviting British companies to explore opportunities in key sectors such as agro-machinery, food processing, IT, and manufacturing. He emphasized Punjab’s investor-friendly ecosystem, featuring competitive power tariffs, land facilities, and a transparent single-window system.

Addressing cross-border concerns, Mann assured the UK delegation of Punjab’s collaboration on legal matters, including organized crime, and expressed full government support for businesses seeking to invest in the state.
The CM Bhagwant Mann also invited the UK delegation to participate in the upcoming Progressive Punjab Investors Summit (PPIS) in Mohali this March, describing Punjab as a “land of opportunities” and Mohali as the “next Silicon Valley” due to its international airport, robust infrastructure, and talent pool within a 100 km radius. Mann highlighted how investment initiatives in the state would create employment opportunities for youth while boosting economic growth.
Responding to the meeting, Deputy High Commissioner Alba Smeriglio acknowledged the significance of the Punjabi diaspora and the investment potential it brings. The UK delegation expressed keen interest in exploring Punjab’s diverse investment opportunities firsthand.
