PUNJAB NEWS Update : Punjab Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha assured that the state government stands shoulder to shoulder with the people during this crisis and will extend full support in every difficulty.
PUNJAB NEWS : Chief Secretary said that relief and rescue operations are in progress, and once normalcy is restored, a special Girdawari (crop loss survey) will be carried out to ensure compensation for all kinds of losses. He also informed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has set up a high-powered committee to oversee relief efforts, under which three senior officers have been deputed to Amritsar district for supervision.
Following the Chief Minister’s directions, Mr. Sinha visited flood-hit areas in Ajnala and Ramdas (Amritsar) and Bamiyal and Narot Jaimal Singh (Pathankot), where he inspected the Dhussi embankment of the Ravi river and reviewed arrangements at the relief camp in Chamiyari village.
He personally reached marooned villages to assess the ground situation, interacted with residents, and sought feedback on the relief being provided. In many places, he distributed aid himself and urged people to shift to safer areas. Later, he held a detailed review meeting with the district administration and army officials on rescue operations, appreciating the dedicated efforts of the Army, NDRF, police, and civil authorities.
During his visit to Bamiyal and Kolian, Mr. Sinha said that excess water in the Ravi river had damaged the Dhussi embankment, causing flooding in nearby villages of Pathankot. However, as the river’s water level has started receding, floodwater in affected villages is also decreasing. He directed officials to further intensify relief measures to maximize assistance to affected families.
He also interacted with officers of NDRF, the Health Department, and other departments to monitor the ongoing efforts. Present during the visit were Water Resources Principal Secretary Krishan Kumar, senior IAS officers deputed for relief operations – Kamal Kishore Yadav, Varun Roojam, and Basant Garg – along with Amritsar DC Sakshi Sahni, SSP Swapan Sharma, NDRF Deputy Commander Anil Taluktra, Colonel Robin Ethany, Pathankot DC Aditya Uppal, SSP Daljinder Singh Dhillon, and ADC (General) Hardeep Singh.
