Punjab Govt strengthens Yudh Nashe Virudh campaign with Methadone Maintenance Therapy centres for scientific drug treatment and rehabilitation.
Under the #Yudh Nashe Virudh campaign, the Punjab Government has taken another significant step towards strengthening its fight against drug addiction by introducing Methadone Maintenance Therapy (MMT) to provide scientific treatment and rehabilitation support to people struggling with substance dependence.
Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that the government’s approach against drugs is not limited to strict action against drug traffickers but also focuses on ensuring that individuals affected by addiction receive proper medical care, counselling, rehabilitation and an opportunity to restart their lives.

MMT Centres Operational in Six Punjab Districts
Dr. Balbir Singh informed that Methadone Maintenance Therapy centres are currently operational in Faridkot, Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar, Mohali and Jalandhar.
These centres provide a comprehensive treatment model where patients receive:
- Supervised medication under medical experts
- Counselling and behavioural support
- Psychiatric assistance
- Relapse prevention guidance
- Rehabilitation services under one roof
The minister said that the Punjab Government is working towards expanding this network further. Six more MMT centres will be established soon, increasing the total number of centres to 12 across the state.
Focus on Scientific Approach Towards Addiction Treatment
Dr. Balbir Singh said that addiction is a health challenge that requires a scientific and compassionate approach. Through MMT, patients are provided controlled medical support to reduce dependency and help them gradually return to a normal and productive life.
He added that counselling and mental health support play an important role in the recovery process, as rehabilitation is not only about medical treatment but also about rebuilding confidence and social acceptance.
Punjab Government’s Dual Strategy Against Drugs
The Punjab Government has adopted a two-pronged strategy under Yudh Nashe Virudh — strict action against those involved in the illegal drug trade and strong support systems for people affected by addiction.
Dr. Balbir Singh emphasized that every person battling addiction deserves access to quality treatment and rehabilitation facilities. The government’s objective is to create a stronger de-addiction ecosystem where affected individuals can receive timely help and move towards a healthier future.
With the expansion of MMT services, Punjab aims to further strengthen its efforts towards creating a drug-free state and protecting the future of its youth.
