Sanjay Singh questions election process and use of institutions, raising concerns over democracy vs authoritarianism debate in India.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has raised serious concerns over the functioning of India’s electoral process and the role of various constitutional and administrative institutions during elections. His remarks have intensified the ongoing debate on “democracy versus authoritarianism” in the political landscape.
Sanjay Singh alleged that the use of central agencies during elections raises questions about fairness and transparency. He pointed towards the involvement of institutions such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and even the Election Commission, suggesting that their role in the electoral process needs closer scrutiny.
He also claimed that large-scale deployment of central security forces, frequent transfers of administrative officials, and high election-related expenditure create an uneven environment during polls. According to him, these factors collectively raise concerns about the integrity of the electoral system.

The AAP leader further expressed concern over voter list revision processes, alleging that such mechanisms may impact the rights of a large number of eligible voters. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
Sanjay Singh stated that such developments raise serious questions about the health of democratic institutions in the country. He emphasized that if these practices are considered normal in a democracy, then there is a need to re-examine the definition and functioning of democratic systems.
He also compared the current political environment with broader themes of democracy and authoritarianism, saying that the ongoing trends are fueling a larger national debate on institutional independence and electoral fairness.
The remarks by Sanjay Singh are expected to further intensify political discussions between opposition parties and the ruling establishment over the role of institutions in elections and the safeguarding of democratic processes.
