AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj announces backup leadership plans ahead of the October 10 Jantar Mantar protest demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has stepped up preparations for its proposed October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar, where the party plans to demand the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj held a marathon meeting with the party’s MLAs, councillors, district presidents, assembly presidents and ward observers to discuss the arrangements.
A key focus of the meeting was the creation of a backup leadership structure so that the protest can continue even if senior leaders are detained or arrested.
AAP Plans Second and Third-Line Leadership
According to Saurabh Bharadwaj, the party wants every organisation and participating group to identify second- and third-level leaders who can take charge if the primary leadership is unavailable.

He said the objective is not only to ensure continuity but also to maintain communication and coordination among protesters. Bharadwaj urged leaders to prepare alternative plans in advance instead of waiting for an unexpected situation during the protest.
Claims of Possible Arrests
Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that the party has been receiving messages suggesting that people and organisations associated with the proposed protest could face police action. He alleged that some supporters may be booked in what he described as false cases.
He said the protest should not stop even if some leaders are detained. According to him, the proposed demonstration is larger than any individual leader, organisation or political party and is being presented by AAP as a wider democratic movement.
The claims regarding possible arrests and police action are based on Bharadwaj’s statements and have not been independently verified.

Bharadwaj said the party is also preparing for the possibility that district- and assembly-level leaders could be detained shortly before the October 10 demonstration.
He asked organisations to decide in advance who would assume responsibility if the first line of leadership is arrested, followed by the second line. He also stressed the importance of deciding how information and messages would reach supporters if key coordinators were unavailable.

Focus on Keeping Protest Peaceful
Saurabh Bharadwaj also emphasised that the demonstration should remain democratic, constitutional, legal and peaceful.
He said leaders normally play an important role in maintaining communication with the police and administration during protests. Therefore, according to Bharadwaj, an alternative leadership structure would help ensure that the demonstration remains organised and peaceful even if senior leaders are not present.
Backup Communication Channels Also Discussed
The AAP leader said organisations should also consider alternative communication channels in case access to platforms such as WhatsApp or Instagram is disrupted.
He suggested that participating groups should think about alternatives such as Signal or Telegram and keep multiple communication options ready. Bharadwaj urged leaders to prepare both “Plan B” and “Plan C” for communication and organisational coordination.
October 10 Protest to Demand Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation
The proposed October 10 Jantar Mantar demonstration is being organised around a demand for the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. Saurabh Bharadwaj said people from different parts of the country are expected to participate in the protest.
AAP has maintained that the demonstration should continue peacefully regardless of any administrative or political developments. The party’s latest meeting focused on leadership continuity, communication arrangements and preparedness for different possible scenarios ahead of the protest.
