AAP MLA Gopal Italia alleges candidate Rahulbhai was threatened and forced to withdraw from the Gandhinagar civic election.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Visavadar Gopal Italia has made serious allegations regarding the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation election, claiming that AAP candidate Rahulbhai was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint, threatened with death and pressured into withdrawing his candidature.
Speaking at a press conference in Gandhinagar, Gopal Italia on Rahulbhai election withdrawal said the alleged incident highlights the pressure being faced by opposition candidates during the election process. He appealed to voters to support candidates who, according to him, are committed to bringing political change in Gujarat.
Gopal Italia Alleges Threats Against AAP Candidate
Gopal Italia claimed that Rahulbhai had been campaigning actively for the Aam Aadmi Party in Kolvada village. According to Italia, the candidate and his family were allegedly subjected to threats and pressure over the past several days.
The AAP MLA alleged that Rahulbhai was threatened with serious consequences if he continued contesting the election. He claimed that the pressure eventually forced the candidate to withdraw from the electoral contest.
The allegations made by Gopal Italia on Rahulbhai election withdrawal have raised questions over the atmosphere surrounding the Gandhinagar civic polls. These claims are allegations made by the AAP leader, and an independent verification of them was not provided in the statement.
‘People Are Angry With BJP’: Gopal Italia
During the press conference, Italia said he had been conducting public outreach in Gandhinagar for several days. He claimed that many residents had expressed dissatisfaction with the BJP government and its functioning.
According to him, some people told him that although they might not openly associate themselves with AAP, they intended to vote for the party because of their dissatisfaction with the existing political system.
Italia urged voters to support young candidates and those who, in his view, were willing to work for change.

AAP MLA Targets BJP and Congress
Gopal Italia also criticised both the BJP and Congress, claiming that the two parties had acted similarly on several occasions. He referred to the previous Gandhinagar civic election, saying two Congress councillors had later joined the BJP while AAP councillor Tushar Parikh remained with the party.
He also referred to developments in Visavadar and alleged that Congress and BJP had worked together in a no-confidence motion against the president.
Italia argued that voters should therefore consider AAP candidates as an alternative to both parties.
‘Rahulbhai Was Forced to Withdraw’: Italia
According to Gopal Italia on Rahulbhai election withdrawal, the candidate’s decision was not motivated by any political change of heart or support for the BJP. Italia claimed Rahulbhai had been associated with public life for several years and had previously contested an election as an independent candidate.
Italia further claimed that Rahulbhai had actively campaigned with AAP after submitting his nomination and was enthusiastic about contesting the election. He alleged that threats against Rahulbhai and his family ultimately led to the withdrawal.
The AAP MLA described the alleged incident as an example of political intimidation and appealed to voters to respond through the ballot.
Italia Raises Questions Over Election Expenditure Cases
Gopal Italia also raised another issue concerning BJP candidates who, according to him, had submitted identical election expenditure details during the previous Gandhinagar election.
He claimed that the Gujarat Election Commission had issued notices in connection with the matter and that proceedings against 12 candidates were still pending. Italia alleged that if these candidates were elected again, their membership could potentially face cancellation.
He urged voters to consider these issues before casting their ballots and appealed to them to vote for AAP candidates.
AAP Appeals for Support in Gandhinagar
Concluding his remarks, Gopal Italia on Rahulbhai election withdrawal urged Gandhinagar voters to support candidates who, according to AAP, are committed to public service and political change.
He alleged that the reported pressure on Rahulbhai demonstrated the challenges faced by opposition candidates and called upon voters to respond democratically through their votes.
The allegations regarding kidnapping, threats and coercion are serious claims made by Gopal Italia and the Aam Aadmi Party. Any independent investigation or response from the BJP or other concerned parties would provide further clarity on the allegations.
