UP Lok Sabha Polls:Kannauj and Kheri, along with Dhaurhara and Sitapur, record above 60% voting, Kanpur turnout lowest at 53.06%
The voter turnout of 58.09% recorded in the fourth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha election in 13 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh was close to the 2019 election mark of 58.75 %.
Over 60% of voters turned out in Kannauj, Kheri, Dhaurhara, and Sitapur, which are high-profile constituencies.
As compared to 60.80% in 2019, voter turnout in Kannauj, where Akhilesh Yadav is running against sitting BJP MP Subrat Pathak, was 61% on Monday.
Kheri, the constituency was in the limelight in connection with the October 3, 2021, Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. Union minister Ajay Mishra Teni is facing SP candidate Utkarsh Verma, saw 64.73 % polling, higher than the 2019 figure of 64.20%.
In the Dhaurhara constituency, where BJP national vice-president Rekha Verma was up against former Lucknow University students’ union leader Anand Bhadouria, 64.45% of voters turned out against 64.66 % in 2019.
The BJP’s Rajesh Verma faced the Congress’ Rakesh Rathore and the BSP’s Mahendra Yadav in Sitapur,recorded 61.91% polling against 63.84% in 2019.
Kanpur had the lowest turnout of 53.06% among the 13 constituencies that voted in the fourth phase, still higher than 51.39% in 2019.
Farrukhabad witnessed 58.97% polling now against 58.71% in 2019.
A decline of over 5% was recorded in turnout in the first phase of voting in eight constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh on April 19. The second phase in eight Lok Sabha seats, 55.19% voted on April 26, down from 61.90% in 2019. For the same 10 constituencies, voter turnout in the third phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha election was 57.34 %, 2.58% less than in the 2019 election.
