The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has apprehended Dr Narinder Pal Singh, Medical Officer and Ram Singh alias Tenu, a Sweeper, both posted at Civil Hospital Bathinda while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused have been arrested on a complaint lodged by Nirmal Singh, a resident of village Gurusar Sehney Wala, Bathinda district.
He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB range Bathinda and alleged that above said officials has demanded a bribe of Rs 12,000 in lieu of issuing a medico legal report (MLR) pertaining to his servant who has been injured in a quarrel but the deal has been struck at Rs 10,000. The complainant further alleged that the said accused have already taken Rs 5,000 in this regard on the spot and demanding the remaining balance of bribe.
The spokesperson informed that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, a VB team from Bathinda range laid a trap in which medical officer and Sweeper were nabbed red handed while accepting second instalment of bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered at VB police station Bathinda range. Both the accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this was under progress, he said.
