2027 Hyundai i20 Test Mule Spotted: Hatchback or Crossover?
Looks like Hyundai is cooking up something fresh for one of its most-loved hatchbacks. Spy shots of what’s believed to be the next-gen Hyundai i20 have surfaced, and this time, it isn’t just a regular facelift — the car looks like it’s going full crossover mode. Expected to launch around 2027, the new i20 could be a big shift from the sleek city-friendly design we’re used to.

Hyundai i20: A Hatchback That Wants to Be a Crossover
From the pictures, the upcoming i20 has a boxier stance with a tougher, SUV-inspired silhouette. Think flatter pillars, thick body cladding, and a rising beltline — all the stuff that gives off crossover energy. The front end has also been reworked with lower-set LED headlights and a smaller grille, making it look sharper and more muscular.
And yes, before you ask — the exhaust pipes spotted on the test car confirm it’s still sticking to ICE power (at least for now).
Déjà Vu: Remember the i20 Active?
If the design feels a little familiar, you’re not imagining it. Hyundai used to sell the i20 Active, a rugged spin on the hatchback, and this upcoming version seems to echo some of that spirit. Only this time, it looks more grown-up and globally ready.
