In a surprise visit to Government Senior Secondary School, Hathiyarpur, Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains emphasized the need for rapid modernisation of government schools in Punjab. The Minister instructed officials to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) within a week to transform the school into a model institution.
During the inspection, Bains noted the poor state of classrooms and the urgent need for repainting, despite the school’s proximity to Chandigarh. He directed the Director of Secondary Education to form an inspection team immediately to assess the school’s infrastructure and prepare a comprehensive DPR. The goal is to establish Hathiyarpur School as a benchmark for other government schools in Punjab.

The Minister Harjot Singh Bains ordered significant upgrades including ICT-enabled smart classrooms, renovation of basic facilities, repair works, and provision of new student uniforms. He also encouraged displaying students’ artwork in school corridors to foster creativity and promote a positive learning environment.
Interacting with students, Bains sought feedback on educational quality and facilities, motivating them to set ambitious goals and pursue excellence. He also emphasized community involvement, directing that the playground, funded with ₹15 lakh, be accessible to local children during evening hours.
Reaffirming the Punjab Government’s commitment under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Bains asked teachers to submit a detailed list of requirements to the inspection team. He assured that he would personally monitor the school’s modernization, ensuring that government schools match the standards of top private institutions.
This initiative marks another step in Punjab’s ongoing efforts to upgrade educational infrastructure, improve learning outcomes, and provide high-quality facilities in government schools.
