On the occasion of International Women’s Day, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann called upon girls in Punjab to actively participate in governance, economy, and politics, emphasizing that the state cannot become a front-runner in the country without full women participation. Addressing a state-level function at Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s sustained efforts towards women empowerment in Punjab.
Merit-Based Recruitment and Government Jobs for Girls
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann highlighted that Punjab has provided more than 63,000 government jobs on merit, with a majority of the beneficiaries being girls. “This transparent recruitment drive ensures fairness and gives girls a platform to actively contribute to the socio-economic development of the state,” he said. The Chief Minister stressed that opportunities in government jobs are vital for advancing women empowerment in Punjab and promoting equality in the workforce.

Women in Leadership and Administration
The Chief Minister further praised women officers appointed as Deputy Commissioners, Senior Superintendents of Police, and ADCs across the state. “These women leaders are performing their responsibilities with dedication and competence, significantly benefiting society,” said CM Bhagwant Singh Mann. Districts headed by women Deputy Commissioners have recorded the lowest female foeticide rates, a testament to the positive impact of women in leadership positions.

Historic Steps in Emergency Services
Announcing a landmark initiative, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Punjab will be the only state in the country to allow girls in the Fire Fighting Services after removing unrealistic conditions that previously restricted their entry. This step reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to women empowerment in Punjab and ensuring equal opportunities in all sectors.
Honoring Women Achievers and Freedom Fighters
The Chief Minister paid tribute to historical women figures like Durga Bhabhi and Mai Bhago, highlighting their significant contributions to India’s freedom struggle. “Girls today have inspiring role models and must follow their footsteps to serve the nation,” he said. During the event, several women achievers, including UPSC qualifiers, were felicitated by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting female excellence.
