AAP leaders raise concerns over One Nation One Election after JPC meeting, questioning feasibility, cost, and constitutional implications.

Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a press conference after participating in the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting on the proposed One Nation One Election framework, raising several constitutional and practical concerns over the plan.

The meeting was attended by senior AAP leaders including Gujarat State President Isudan Gadhvi, MLA Gopal Italia, MLA Chaitar Vasava, MLA Hemant Khava, and other party representatives.

‘How can all elections happen together?’ – AAP Questions Feasibility

Addressing the media, Isudan Gadhvi questioned the practicality of conducting simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and local bodies.

He said that assembly elections themselves are held in multiple phases, so conducting all elections together would be structurally difficult and administratively complex.

Different Issues for Different Elections

AAP leaders argued that each level of election—national, state, and local—has different issues, priorities, and governance challenges, making a unified election cycle unrealistic.

They also raised concerns about whether such a system would undermine India’s federal structure and constitutional principles.

Concerns Over Cost Argument and Governance Stability

The party stated that arguments about election cost savings are misleading, adding that election expenditure is a small fraction of India’s GDP and should not be considered a burden on democracy.

AAP leaders further questioned what would happen if governments fall mid-term and how President’s Rule would be managed under a synchronized election system.

Alternative Ideas Proposed by AAP

Isudan Gadhvi suggested that instead of One Nation One Election, the government should focus on:

One Nation One Education
One Nation One Health
One Nation One Justice
One Nation One Food

He emphasized that public welfare issues should be prioritized over electoral restructuring.

Written Objections Submitted to JPC

AAP leaders confirmed that their concerns and objections were submitted in writing to the JPC members and chairman during the meeting.

They also proposed an alternative model where state and national elections could be conducted in different cycles instead of simultaneously.
