An Air India Express flight travelling from Varanasi to Delhi made a precautionary landing at Lucknow Airport on Thursday morning after a smoke indication was reported in the aircraft’s rear cargo compartment. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew members were reported safe.

Air India Express Flight IX 1253 Lands Safely

The aircraft operating Air India Express flight IX 1253 from Varanasi to Delhi touched down at Lucknow Airport at around 8:52 am after the smoke indication was detected.

Following the landing, the airport’s emergency response team carried out an immediate visual inspection of the aircraft. Officials did not find any visible signs of smoke during the initial check.

The aircraft was then moved to a designated parking stand at the airport. Passenger deplaning began at approximately 9:02 am.

All 155 Passengers and Crew Safe

There were 155 passengers and crew members on board the Air India Express flight. No injuries were reported following the precautionary landing.

Further technical checks are expected to be carried out to establish what triggered the smoke indication in the aft cargo compartment. The precautionary landing allowed airport authorities to inspect the aircraft and ensure the safety of everyone on board.

Incident Comes After Varanasi Airport Gun Discharge

The latest Air India Express flight incident comes days after an accidental firearm discharge at Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport.

On August 16, a passenger travelling with his wife on Air India Express flight IX-1810 to Mumbai had declared that he was carrying a firearm. During the mandatory weapons inspection, the pistol accidentally discharged.

The incident resulted in injuries to two AAICLAS security screeners. According to officials, the bullet initially hit the ground before striking the employees after the weapon recoiled.

One male screener suffered an injury to his hand, while a female employee sustained an injury to her thigh. Both were taken to a hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.

Investigation Underway

Airport authorities and local police were informed about the Varanasi incident, while an investigation was initiated to establish the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge.

Meanwhile, the reason behind the smoke indication reported on the Air India Express flight IX 1253 is yet to be established. The aircraft will undergo further checks before its next operation.
