BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia files a ₹2 crore defamation case against CJP leaders. Saurav Das responds with a sarcastic Greater Noida court remark.
BJP spokesperson and lawyer Gaurav Bhatia has filed a ₹2 crore defamation case against the leadership of the satirical political outfit Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The Gaurav Bhatia defamation case has been filed before the Delhi High Court and is expected to come up for hearing.
Bhatia shared an image of the court filing on X, showing CJP national convener Abhijeet Dipke and co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka as defendants in the matter.
The BJP spokesperson said the legal proceedings would now determine the truth behind the allegations that triggered the dispute on social media.
Bhatia Says Truth Will Be Tested in Court
Reacting to the filing, Gaurav Bhatia said the matter should not be decided through social media exchanges. He maintained that facts, evidence and the rule of law would determine the outcome.
In his post, Bhatia said that when accusations cross a certain limit, the law steps in. He also reiterated that the Gaurav Bhatia defamation case would be heard by the Delhi High Court and that there would be no social media trial or continued battle of statements.
In another post, he said strong arguments would be presented before the court and suggested that the legal proceedings would expose what he described as false claims.
Saurav Das Responds With Greater Noida Court Remark
Soon after Bhatia announced the lawsuit, CJP co-convener Saurav Das responded with a sarcastic remark.
Taking a dig at the BJP spokesperson, Das wrote on X, “Hilte dulte Greater Noida court matt poch jana!” along with a laughing emoji. The comment was a reference to Greater Noida and appeared intended as a jibe at Bhatia’s legal action.
The exchange marks another development in the ongoing confrontation between the two sides.
What Triggered the Dispute?
The Gaurav Bhatia defamation case follows a social media dispute that began last week. Saurav Das had shared a graphic on X containing an alleged statement attributed to Bhatia about right-wing influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj.
Bhatia subsequently described the graphic as fake and demanded that Das remove the post and issue an unconditional apology within 24 hours.
Das later removed the post and said he had been informed that the graphic was created using artificial intelligence. However, he did not issue the apology demanded by Bhatia.
Instead, Das challenged BJP leaders to repeat the alleged statement themselves, keeping the political and social media dispute alive.

Bhatia Had Warned of FIR
After the post was deleted, Bhatia said that its removal did not resolve the issue because an unconditional apology had not been offered.
He claimed that the post was taken down within 83 minutes but warned that further legal action, including an FIR, could follow if an apology was not given. Bhatia argued that allegedly spreading propaganda and subsequently deleting a post could not end the matter.
The latest Gaurav Bhatia defamation case represents an escalation of the dispute from social media exchanges to formal legal proceedings.
Swatantra Bhardwaj Controversy
At the centre of the wider dispute is Swatantra Bhardwaj, a right-wing influencer who made allegations about an incident involving the father of student activist Nishu Azad.
Bhardwaj had reportedly claimed during an interview that he had attacked Nishu Azad’s father during a June 23 protest. He also alleged that his political connections helped him avoid immediate arrest.
The issue subsequently became a matter of political confrontation. CJP members held a protest outside the Parliament Street police station, demanding action against Bhardwaj.
Bhardwaj was later detained in Bulandshahr on Friday, according to the information cited in connection with the controversy.
Case Now Moves to the Courtroom
The Gaurav Bhatia defamation case now shifts the dispute from X posts and public statements to the courtroom. The lawsuit names CJP national convener Abhijeet Dipke along with co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka as defendants.
Bhatia has maintained that the matter should be decided on the basis of facts and evidence rather than through social media arguments. The next proceedings before the Delhi High Court are expected to shed more light on the legal claims made by both sides.
