Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann flags off 100 new mini buses to improve rural connectivity, with 309 more buses expected next month.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has launched a new initiative to strengthen public transportation across rural and urban areas of the state. The Chief Minister flagged off 100 new mini buses at the headquarters of the state transport corporation, aiming to make daily travel more accessible, affordable and convenient for residents. The introduction of Punjab New Mini Buses is expected to improve connectivity, particularly in villages where narrow roads make it difficult for larger buses to operate.
100 Mini Buses to Operate Through Nine Depots
Each newly introduced mini bus has a seating capacity of 29 passengers. The buses will operate through nine depots of the state transport corporation, expanding public transport access across different parts of Punjab.
The Punjab New Mini Buses initiative is designed to address transportation challenges in remote villages and interior areas. Improved bus connectivity is expected to benefit students, working professionals, young people and daily commuters who depend on public transport for their regular journeys.
The smaller size of these buses will also make it easier to serve routes where conventional buses face operational difficulties, helping more residents access essential transportation services.
CM Mann Hands Over Appointment Letters to 15 Employees
The event, held in Patiala, also highlighted the Punjab government’s focus on employment opportunities for young people. During the programme, Bhagwant Mann distributed appointment letters to 15 newly selected employees of the Transport Department.
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government was working to improve the state’s public transport infrastructure while strengthening the services provided by government-run transport agencies.
According to the government’s announcement, the addition of the new vehicles will increase the transport corporation’s capacity and help make journeys more comfortable and convenient for passengers.

Another 309 Buses to Join Punjab’s Transport Fleet
The state government has also announced plans to expand the transport network further. According to CM Mann, another 309 buses are scheduled to be added to the transport corporation’s fleet next month.
This planned expansion, along with the Punjab New Mini Buses rollout, is expected to increase the availability of public transportation and improve access to bus services in more areas of the state.
A stronger transport network could be particularly useful for people living in villages who travel to nearby towns for education, employment, healthcare and other essential needs.
Government Aims to Extend Bus Services to Every Village
Addressing the gathering, Bhagwant Mann criticised previous governments over the condition of public infrastructure. He said his government had worked to revive canals and distributaries that had become non-functional and restore the flow of water through them.
Drawing a comparison with these efforts, Mann said the government was also committed to extending public bus services to every corner of Punjab.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the objective was to ensure that residents of every village and region could access reliable and convenient transportation. The Punjab New Mini Buses initiative forms part of this broader effort to address connectivity gaps and strengthen government-run transport services.
Focus on Better Connectivity and Public Transport
The launch of 100 mini buses marks another step in the state’s effort to expand its public transport infrastructure. With 29-seat vehicles serving nine depots and 309 additional buses expected next month, the government aims to improve the reach and capacity of its transport network.
If implemented as announced, the expansion could make daily commuting easier for rural residents and provide better links between villages and nearby urban centres. The Punjab New Mini Buses initiative also reflects the government’s stated goal of making public transportation more accessible to communities that have limited transport options.
