Haryana expands Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana to beekeeping, offering ₹1,250 insurance cover per colony and box against specified risks.
The Haryana government has announced major relief for beekeepers by bringing beekeeping under the Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana. The initiative aims to protect farmers and entrepreneurs from financial losses caused by natural disasters, accidents and diseases affecting honeybee colonies.
Announcing the decision on October 27, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana said the move would strengthen financial security for people engaged in beekeeping across the state. The expansion of the Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana is expected to reduce the financial burden on beekeepers when unexpected events damage their colonies or equipment.
Which Losses Will Be Covered Under the Scheme?
According to the government, the insurance coverage will include several risks associated with beekeeping. These include damage caused by floods that submerge beehive boxes and colonies, destruction due to fire, and accidents during transportation.
For transportation-related incidents, the insurance benefit will be available only when the accident takes place within Haryana and an official First Information Report (FIR) or Daily Diary Report (DDR) has been registered.
The scheme will also cover losses resulting from epidemics affecting honeybees. Through the Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana, the state government aims to offer beekeepers financial support against risks that could otherwise affect their livelihoods and business operations.
Insurance Coverage Available for Up to 250 Colonies and Boxes
Shyam Singh Rana explained that each beekeeper can obtain insurance coverage for a maximum of 250 bee colonies and 250 boxes under the prescribed framework.
Registration under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana–Honey is compulsory to qualify for the benefit. Applicants must also provide the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana unit number assigned to each box.
The government has linked eligibility to these registration requirements to ensure that beneficiaries and their beekeeping units can be identified under the scheme.
Premium of ₹50, Insurance Cover of ₹1,250 per Unit
The insurance premium has been kept affordable to encourage wider participation among beekeepers. The premium is ₹50 per bee colony and ₹50 per box, while the insurance coverage stands at ₹1,250 for each colony and ₹1,250 for each box.
The maximum coverage can reach ₹3,12,500 for colonies and an additional ₹3,12,500 for boxes, subject to the scheme’s eligibility conditions and applicable rules.
This insurance arrangement under the Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana is designed to help beekeepers manage financial risks without paying a high upfront premium.
Haryana Government Urges Beekeepers to Register
The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister has encouraged beekeepers throughout Haryana to take advantage of the initiative and complete the required registration formalities.
Those seeking further information can contact the District Horticulture Officer in their respective districts. Assistance is also available through the Haryana Horticulture Department’s toll-free helpline at 1800-180-2021.
By including beekeeping in the Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana, the Haryana government aims to strengthen support for the state’s horticulture sector, encourage beekeeping as a livelihood and provide financial protection against unforeseen losses.
