AAP steps up preparations for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections as Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann hold a key meeting in Delhi. First candidate list likely before November 15.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has stepped up its preparations for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with the party aiming to secure a second consecutive term in the state. Even though the election schedule has not been announced, the party has reportedly started discussions on candidate selection, election management and its overall political strategy.
As part of its preparations, AAP has called an important meeting in Delhi on Friday, October 30. Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and several senior leaders are expected to participate in the discussions.
One of the key topics on the agenda will be the selection of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections. According to sources, AAP may announce its first list of candidates before November 15. However, the party has not officially confirmed either the list or its expected release date.
The meeting is also expected to discuss election management and the party’s broader strategy. Leaders may consider whether sitting MLAs should be given another opportunity or whether fresh faces should be fielded in selected constituencies. These discussions are likely to play an important role in shaping the party’s approach to the AAP Punjab Assembly Elections 2027.
Why AAP May Announce Candidates Ahead of Schedule
Releasing candidate names before the formal announcement of elections could give prospective nominees additional time to connect with voters and strengthen their presence in their respective constituencies.
Early selection may also help the party organise grassroots-level activities and improve coordination between candidates and the party organisation. The reported plan to release the first list before November 15 is therefore being viewed as an important part of AAP’s election preparations.
However, the final decision on candidate selection and the announcement timeline is still awaited.
AAP’s Strong Performance in the 2022 Punjab Elections
AAP formed the government in Punjab after a decisive victory in the 2022 Assembly elections. The party contested all 117 constituencies and won 92 seats, while candidates from other parties secured the remaining 25.
The victory gave AAP a strong political position in the state. Now, as the AAP Punjab Assembly Elections 2027 approach, the party faces the challenge of retaining its support base and repeating its previous electoral success.

AAP’s Performance in Punjab Assembly By-Elections
Apart from its 2022 victory, AAP has also recorded several wins in Assembly by-elections held in Punjab.
In November 2024, the party won three out of the four Assembly seats that went to bypolls, while the Congress secured victory in the remaining constituency.
The party also won the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election held in November 2025. AAP candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu defeated his rival by a margin of 12,091 votes.
Between July 2024 and November 2025, AAP won six of the seven Assembly by-elections conducted in Punjab, losing only one seat. These results have added to the party’s electoral record ahead of the next major contest.
Delhi Meeting Expected to Shape AAP’s Election Strategy
The upcoming meeting involving Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann and other senior leaders is expected to provide direction to the party’s preparations for the 2027 polls.
Candidate selection, the role of sitting MLAs, organisational planning and election management are likely to remain key discussion points. The AAP Punjab Assembly Elections 2027 strategy will be crucial as the party works towards securing another term in government.
While the possibility of announcing the first candidate list before November 15 has generated interest, AAP is yet to make an official announcement. The decisions taken during the Delhi meeting could offer a clearer picture of the party’s next steps ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections.
