AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal meets Punjab MLAs in Delhi. With 10 months to elections, he warns of BJP’s tactics and predicts the fall of the Modi govt. Read more.
In a high-stakes meeting with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators from Punjab, National Convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal officially sounded the war cry for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. Addressing the gathering in the national capital, Kejriwal emphasized that with only ten months remaining, the party must transition into a full-scale campaign mode to defend its stronghold in the border state.
The AAP leader expressed immense pride in the performance of the Bhagwant Mann-led government. He noted that while most administrations face significant anti-incumbency in their final year, the Punjab government continues to receive widespread acclaim for its public-centric initiatives. Kejriwal asserted that the work done in sectors like education and health has created a positive narrative that will be the party’s primary shield against opposition attacks.

A Warning on Democratic Integrity
During the session, Kejriwal drew a sharp comparison with the recent electoral proceedings in West Bengal, which he described not as an election but as a “dance of destruction” or tandav. He raised serious allegations regarding voter suppression and the manipulation of electoral rolls. Sharing a personal anecdote from his own constituency, he claimed that 42,000 votes were strategically removed. He argued that his narrow defeat was a direct result of these discrepancies rather than a shift in public sentiment, warning the MLAs that the very foundation of Indian freedom and democracy is currently under threat.
Kejriwal’s rhetoric took a historical turn as he reminded the party of their 2015 victory in Delhi. He recalled how the BJP seemed invincible after the 2014 general elections until the Aam Aadmi Party halted their momentum by winning 67 out of 70 seats. He used the metaphor of the “Ashwamedha horse” to describe the BJP’s electoral streak, claiming that just as Delhi stopped the horse in 2015, Punjab would be the catalyst for the fall of the current central government in the upcoming February elections.
The Road Ahead for Punjab
The National Convener did not mince words regarding the challenges ahead. While expressing confidence in a victory, he urged his MLAs to maintain a rigorous work ethic on the ground. He cautioned that the political stakes extend beyond mere seat counts, alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party harbors a specific animosity toward the people of Punjab. Kejriwal warned that a defeat for the AAP would result in the “trampling” of Punjab’s interests by central forces.
As the ten-month countdown begins, the Aam Aadmi Party appears to be framing the Punjab election as a national turning point. By linking local governance with a broader struggle for democratic rights, Kejriwal is attempting to galvanize his base for a battle he believes will reshape the Indian political landscape in 2027. The meeting concluded with a clear directive to the legislators: return to their constituencies and ensure that the “Punjab model” is communicated to every household before the first ballot is cast.
