CM Bhajan Lal Sharma said that the water of Ghaggar river should be used for drinking water and irrigation.
CM Bhajan Lal Sharma said that the state government is determined to make the state fully self-reliant in the water sector. In this direction, we have taken many important decisions and unprecedented work to increase water availability in the last one year.
CM Bhajan Lal Sharma was addressing a review meeting of the Water Resources Department at a private hotel in Udaipur last night. He said that water is an essential resource in the development of the state, and to provide adequate drinking water and water for irrigation to the 8 crore people of the state, the state government is taking several steps for the development of water sources and increasing water storage capacity
CM Bhajan Lal Sharma said that work is being done at a fast pace on the Ram Jal Setu link project, which will meet the water requirement of 40% of the state’s population. Further, MoU has been signed to bring Yamuna water to Shekhawati region, and water availability is being ensured through Dewas Yojana in Udaipur. A scheme has been launched for drinking water and irrigation from Mahi Dam to Banswara-Dungarpur.
CM Bhajan Lal Sharma directed the officials to make an effective plan to save Ghaggar river from wastage in case of excess inflow of water during the rainy season so that excess water could be used for drinking and irrigation. He also directed to complete the work of concretisation of Indira Gandhi Canal at the earliest.
Officials of the Water Resources Department told the meeting that the farmers’ dharna and chakka jam in Sriganganagar over their demand for water under the Indira Gandhi Canal Project has ended after an agreement between the district administration and the farmers.
CM Bhajan Lal Sharma said that on the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a campaign of water harvesting is being run in 40 thousand villages of the state so that traditional water sources can be conserved in the villages and the availability of clean drinking water can be ensured.
Additional Chief Secretary Water Resources Abhay Kumar and senior officers of the department were also present in the meeting.
