Lal Chand Kataruchak announces Punjab’s wheat procurement season starting April 1, 2026; farmers to get ₹2,585 per quintal MSP with full arrangements ready.
Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak held a live press conference today to provide key details regarding the upcoming wheat procurement season in Punjab. According to the minister, the wheat buying season will officially begin on April 1, 2026, with all arrangements made by the Mann government to ensure smooth operations for farmers.
Extensive Arrangements for Mandis and Procurement
Lal Chand Kataruchak confirmed that Punjab already has 1,897 functional mandis, and an additional 267 temporary mandis have been set up to meet the increased demand. Farmers will receive a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,585 per quintal, which is ₹160 higher than last year. The total CCL for April has reached ₹30,973 crore, ensuring adequate financial support for procurement.

Punjab Exceeds Wheat Procurement Targets
The minister stated that while the central government set a target of 122 lakh metric tons, Punjab has successfully arranged the purchase of 132 lakh metric tons of wheat. Additionally, 4.80 lakh bags of gunny sacks are available, with arrangements being made for up to 5.28 lakh bags. Various agencies involved in wheat procurement will operate in coordination to facilitate seamless buying operations.
Minister to Oversee Market Operations
Lal Chand Kataruchak assured that wheat procurement processes will run smoothly, as in the previous four years. He also mentioned that he, along with senior officials, will personally monitor the markets to ensure that farmers face no issues and receive timely payments.
