Governor Haribhau Bagade has said that the convocation ceremony should be held in the year the student completes his education in the university. He said that efforts should be made at all levels to ensure that students get their degrees on time. He said that in medical education, special attention should be given to increase the intellectual ability of the student. The society got good and talented doctors. He called for special focus on fundamental research and research in medical education. He said that Rajasthan University should become a conduit for exchange of new knowledge in this field by collaborating with other universities of the country and abroad.
Governor Haribhau was addressing the 10th Convocation of Rajasthan University of Health Sciences at Birla Auditorium on Tuesday. He said that special attention should be paid to what the student’s intellectual ability and attention is, what he has read and what he has taken into account. He said that there is no machine to check intellectual ability, but instead of imitation, the one who succeeds in knowledge through intellect is intellectually strong.
Governor Haribhau said that in ancient times, there were only six universities in the world, even then there were two universities in India. Students from all over the country came to study here. Talking about Nalanda University and the knowledge of Ayurveda there, he said that Bakhtiyar Khilji was cured by the Vaidya of Nalanda but he burnt the library there. Talking about India giving the knowledge of Zero to the world, he said that the world could connect with the numbers beyond this. He called for giving direction to modern knowledge from the ancient education of India in the light of gravitational knowledge by Bhaskaracharya and numerological knowledge of Aryabhatta.
Governor Haribhau also informed about the country’s first woman doctor. He said that the country’s first woman doctor, Anandi Gopal Joshi, inspired women in this field by passing the examination in 1886.
Governor Haribhau that the university should do great work in research and research by collaborating with other universities in the country and abroad. This will enable effective sharing of medical knowledge, he added. He said that such knowledge remains more in the mind of the student. It also frees the student from monotony. He called upon the doctors to keep restraint and keep diagnosis as their topmost goal.
Governor Haribhau said that in the Indian perspective, medicine and pharmacology are complementary to each other. He stressed on working towards a mindset of diagnosing the disease with minimum medication.
On this occasion, the Governor digitally launched the “National Academic Depository Portal” by pressing the button. In this, the academic records of eligible candidates will be digitised by the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences. Earlier, he conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Science-Medicine on Dr Vishwa Mohan Katoch for his outstanding contribution to biomedical research. He gave away medals and degrees to the students of Medicine, Dental, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Occupational, Paramedical faculties.
The convocation address was delivered by Dr. K. K. Talwar, Chairman and former Chancellor, PSRI Heart Institute, New Delhi and Head, Department of Cardiology, AIIMS, New Delhi. Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Pramod Yeole presented the progress report of the University.
