Baltej Pannu criticizes Congress, Akali Dal, and BJP over Jaswant Singh Khalra case, raising fresh questions on justice and political accountability in Punjab.
The political debate surrounding the Jaswant Singh Khalra case has intensified once again after strong remarks from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu. He accused traditional political parties in the state of being collectively responsible for failing justice and suppressing the truth over the years.
Pannu claimed that during Congress rule in Punjab, the state witnessed a disturbing phase marked by alleged youth killings and widespread unrest. He said that despite such incidents, no meaningful accountability was ensured at the political level.

Targeting the Shiromani Akali Dal, Pannu alleged that the party came to power by promising a Truth Commission but later failed to deliver justice, using it as a political tool instead. He further accused successive Akali governments of allegedly promoting officers who were linked to controversial cases instead of taking strict action against them.
He also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming that attempts were made to suppress the truth related to S. Jaswant Singh Khalra’s life story, including controversies around a film based on his life.
According to Pannu, even the treatment of Bibi Khalra during the entire case reflected a pattern of political evasion, where governments distanced themselves from responsibility.
He added that recent political statements, including those shared by Akali leader Sukhbir Badal, cannot hide what he called the “real truth” behind decades of political handling of the case.
The remarks have reignited political tensions in Punjab, with the Khalra case once again becoming a focal point in debates over justice, accountability, and human rights in the state.
