CM Nayab Singh Saini : In a major step toward realizing the promise made in the BJP’s Sankalp Patra, the Haryana Government has announced the launch of 200 new Atal Shramik Kisan Canteens by August 2025, as part of the first phase of establishing 600 subsidized food canteens across the state. CM Nayab Singh Saini will inaugurate these canteens on Independence Day, August 15, 2025.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by CM Nayab Singh Saini. These canteens will serve fresh and hygienic meals to farmers and laborers at a subsidized rate of just ₹10 per thali. The initiative also promotes women’s empowerment by engaging members of Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) to operate the canteens.
Currently, 175 subsidized canteens are functional in Haryana—115 managed by the Labour Department, 53 by the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB), and 7 by Sugar Mills. With the addition of 200 new canteens, the total will rise to 375. CM Nayab Singh Saini has instructed officials to begin identifying suitable locations immediately, reaffirming the goal of eventually setting up 600 such canteens in phases.
To ensure access to affordable meals for workers in industrial areas, the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) has been tasked with establishing canteens in all industrial estates. CM Nayab Singh Saini also encouraged companies to support the canteen infrastructure through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Several companies have reportedly shown interest in contributing. Additionally, the and HSAMB have been asked to locate more sites for canteens in mandis, construction zones, and mining areas.
To streamline operations, a dedicated online portal will be developed to provide easy access to information about these canteens. Payments at the canteens will be made via QR code, promoting digital transactions.
CM Nayab Singh Saini further instructed the adoption of a standardized food menu across all subsidized canteens, prepared by the Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission (HSRLM). This menu will include millet-based items and traditional breakfast options like idli and dosa.
The meeting was attended by several senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Sh. Raja Sekhar Vundru, Principal Secretaries Sh. D. Suresh and Sh. Rajeev Ranjan, Dr. Amit Agrawal, Dr. Saket Kumar, Sh. Mukesh Kumar Ahuja, Sh. Mani Ram Sharma, Sh. Sushil Sarwan, Sh. Sunil Sharma, and OSD to CM Sh. Bharat Bhushan Bharti, among others.
