SSMB29: SS Rajamouli Finalises Tanzania as Filming Location After Dropping South Africa Plans
SS Rajamouli’s highly anticipated globe-trotting action-adventure, tentatively titled SSMB29, is once again making headlines — this time for its changing international shoot locations. The film, which stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, has now reportedly finalised Tanzania as a primary filming destination, dropping earlier plans to shoot in South Africa.

According to a report by Mid-Day, the South African locations originally under consideration were visually stunning, but ultimately didn’t align with the “untamed and ancient vibe” that Rajamouli envisioned for the film’s setting. “While the regions of South Africa they visited were stunning, they didn’t align with the on-screen world that Rajamouli had in mind,” the report quoted a source as saying.
Initially, Kenya was also considered for key portions of the international schedule. However, both Kenya and now South Africa have been ruled out, leaving Tanzania as the sole confirmed foreign location so far. The country’s diverse landscapes, including dense forests, sweeping savannahs, and volcanic terrain, reportedly suit the aesthetic Rajamouli is crafting — rumored to be inspired by Indiana Jones-style adventure cinema with a unique Indian storytelling core.
