Son of Sardaar 2 Day 1: Night Shows Push Occupancy Past 40%
Ajay Devgn’s sequel Son of Sardaar 2 hit theatres on Friday, marking his return to the comedy-action genre. Co-starring Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, and Deepak Dobriyal, the film managed a decent start at the box office, raking in approximately ₹6.75 crore (India net) on its opening day, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk.

The film’s overall Day 1 occupancy stood at 22.56%, showing a clear upward trend through the day. It began with a lukewarm 10.24% during the morning shows, gradually picked up momentum in the afternoon (17.88%), improved further in the evening (21.84%), and peaked at 40.27% during night screenings — nearly quadrupling its early-day performance.
Interestingly, the film performed particularly well in Tier-2 cities. Lucknow and Jaipur led the charts with occupancies of 39% and 37%, respectively. In contrast, major metros like Delhi-NCR and Mumbai — typically strongholds for Hindi films — underperformed slightly, recording 30.50% and 20.25% occupancies.
Despite its steady performance, Son of Sardaar 2 is expected to face strong competition from the romantic musical drama Saiyaara, which is drawing attention among younger audiences. However, the Ajay Devgn-starrer may benefit from word-of-mouth over the weekend, especially if the upward trajectory continues.
