Delhi CM Rekha Gupta announces doubling of electric buses to 6,000 by next year.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has unveiled a major initiative to double the city’s electric bus fleet by next year, marking a significant step towards sustainable and eco-friendly public transportation. Currently, Delhi operates approximately 3,000 electric buses, and this number is set to increase to 6,000 by the end of next year, reflecting the government’s commitment to reducing pollution and promoting green mobility.

The Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art, three-storey Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus depot at Hari Nagar. This depot will be equipped to house over 400 buses and will feature 84 advanced charging stations, capable of charging electric buses in just 40 minutes. This development is a crucial part of the Delhi government’s vision to build a “Vikshit Delhi” — a developed city with robust transportation infrastructure and improved last-mile connectivity for commuters.

Designed as a green and self-sustainable facility, the Hari Nagar depot will incorporate rooftop solar power plants to reduce its carbon footprint. It will also include modern cleaning and maintenance facilities alongside commercial spaces, making it an innovative hub that blends environmental sustainability with urban functionality.
