PM Modi launches PM Swanidhi Credit Cards in Thiruvananthapuram; over 10,000 street vendors benefit, empowering urban poor & promoting financial inclusion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a massive rally in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on Friday, launching several key projects and introducing the PM Swanidhi Credit Card for street vendors. The PM also flagged off and laid the foundation for multiple initiatives aimed at empowering urban poor and promoting inclusive development.
Massive Roadshow in the Kerala Capital
The rally started from Thampanoor Overbridge and culminated at Puthrikandam Ground, witnessing thousands of enthusiastic supporters. During his address, PM Modi highlighted the achievements of the central government over the past 11 years, emphasizing that over four crore houses have been constructed for the poor nationwide under the PM Awas Yojana, with more than one crore homes built for urban underprivileged families. In Kerala alone, over 1.25 lakh urban poor have received their permanent homes.

Empowering the Poor through Schemes
PM Modi stated that the government has invested significantly in urban infrastructure, aiming to enhance the lives of the poor. Initiatives such as PM Suryahome Free Electricity Scheme and Ayushman Bharat Health Coverage provide free electricity and health benefits up to INR 5 lakh for eligible beneficiaries. Programs like Matru Vandana ensure the health security of women, and income up to INR 12 lakh is tax-free, benefiting middle-class families, especially salaried individuals in Kerala.
Financial Inclusion and PM Swanidhi Credit Card
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of financial inclusion, noting that millions of SC, ST, OBC, women, and fishermen are now availing bank loans without a guarantor, with the government acting as the guarantee. Street vendors, who previously faced financial hardships, are now receiving PM Swanidhi loans. Taking a step further, the government is now providing PM Swanidhi Credit Cards to these vendors. During the Thiruvananthapuram event, 10,000 beneficiaries from Kerala and 600 from Thiruvananthapuram received their credit cards, giving them easier access to financial resources that were once limited to affluent sections of society.

Addressing the crowd, PM Modi said, “To build a developed India, the entire nation must work together. Our cities play a vital role in this mission.” He stressed that ongoing initiatives are focused on inclusive growth, ensuring that development reaches every corner of the country and benefits the most vulnerable sections of society.
