The Punjab government is introducing major changes in the transport sector under its Punjab Transport Department Reforms initiative. Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema shared details of the upcoming measures, including the purchase of 696 new buses to strengthen public transportation across the state.
Sharing the information on his official X account, Harpal Cheema said that the government is focusing on improving passenger facilities, increasing the bus fleet and adopting modern technology in public transport services.
696 New Buses to Strengthen Punbus and PRTC Fleet
As part of the Punjab Transport Department Reforms, 387 new buses will be added to the Punbus fleet, while 309 buses will be included in the PRTC fleet.
The addition of new buses is expected to improve connectivity, provide better travel facilities and enhance public transport services for passengers across Punjab.

Technology Upgrade in Punjab Buses
Harpal Cheema informed that the government will also introduce advanced security and monitoring systems in buses.
Under the Punjab Transport Department Reforms, cameras will be installed inside and outside buses to improve passenger safety and ensure better monitoring. GPS systems will also be installed to track bus movement and improve operational efficiency.
