The K Kamaraj Birth Anniversary was observed across Tamil Nadu on Wednesday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay paid tribute to the legendary Congress leader and remembered his contribution to India’s freedom movement and nation-building.

PM Modi Remembers Kamaraj’s Contribution to Nation-Building
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to K Kamaraj, describing him as a great figure of India’s freedom movement and an exceptional public leader.
In his message, PM Modi said that Kamaraj dedicated his life to nation-building and his commitment towards education, inclusive development, and the welfare of underprivileged sections continues to inspire generations.
The Prime Minister highlighted Kamaraj’s vision and his contribution to creating opportunities for people across the country.
Tamil Nadu Leaders Highlight Kamaraj’s Education Reforms
During the K Kamaraj Birth Anniversary celebrations, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar praised the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for transforming the state’s education system.
The Governor said that initiatives like the midday meal scheme introduced under Kamaraj’s leadership helped bring thousands of children into schools and opened educational opportunities for disadvantaged communities.
He also highlighted Kamaraj’s reforms in school infrastructure and education policies, which laid the foundation for Tamil Nadu’s social development.
CM Vijay Pays Tribute to Kamaraj’s Legacy
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, along with his cabinet ministers, paid floral tribute at Kamaraj’s statue on Anna Salai in Chennai.
Remembering the leader, Vijay praised Kamaraj for establishing schools in villages, expanding access to education, and introducing welfare schemes aimed at helping poor children.
He also highlighted Kamaraj’s contribution beyond education, including the development of reservoirs, industries, and agricultural infrastructure that transformed the lives of people in Tamil Nadu.

Political Leaders Remember Kamaraj’s Achievements
DMK leader and Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin also paid tribute to Kamaraj, recalling his efforts in reopening thousands of schools and introducing schemes like free uniforms, textbooks, and the midday meal programme.
He said Kamaraj’s contributions to education, industrial growth, and infrastructure development played an important role in shaping Tamil Nadu’s progress.
Several other leaders, including AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, TMC president G K Vasan, and former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai, also remembered Kamaraj on his birth anniversary.
Week-Long Events Announced by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee
To mark the K Kamaraj Birth Anniversary, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee has organised a week-long programme from July 13 to July 19.
TNCC president Manickam Tagore said the events will celebrate Kamaraj’s legacy. The party will also launch an anti-corruption public movement titled “Shun Corruption, Stand Tall” (Lanjam Thavir, Nenjam Nimir) during the week.
The celebrations reflect Kamaraj’s lasting influence on Tamil Nadu’s education system, social welfare policies, and development journey.
