Arvind Kejriwal challenges BJP to jointly inspect 1,000 government schools each in Punjab and Gujarat to compare education infrastructure.
Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has challenged the BJP to conduct a joint inspection of 1,000 government schools each in Punjab and Gujarat. The challenge comes amid allegations and counter-allegations over the condition of government schools in Punjab.
Kejriwal said the BJP should provide a list of 1,000 schools in Gujarat, while the Punjab government can identify 1,000 schools in the state. He proposed that representatives of the public and media inspect schools in both states and compare their infrastructure and facilities.
Arvind Kejriwal Questions BJP’s Claims
Arvind Kejriwal alleged that old videos and misleading material are being circulated to portray Punjab’s government schools negatively. He said school infrastructure has undergone significant changes during the tenure of the AAP government and urged critics to assess the current situation rather than rely on old footage.
According to Kejriwal’s claims, Punjab has around 19,700 government schools, of which approximately 19,200 have been substantially improved, while work is continuing in the remaining schools.
Focus on Punjab’s Education System
Arvind Kejriwal said the Punjab government has worked with teachers, principals, parents and students to improve government schools. He argued that education reforms cannot be credited to the government alone and that the contribution of the wider school community is equally important.
He also said that genuine shortcomings should be pointed out so they can be addressed, but alleged that attempts to deliberately portray Punjab’s schools negatively should be avoided.

The AAP national convenor also claimed that Punjab has achieved the top position in school education according to a central government assessment. He referred to Punjab’s improvement in education performance and contrasted the state’s current position with its earlier ranking.
However, these ranking-related claims are part of Kejriwal’s political argument and should be assessed against the relevant official reports and their methodology.
Challenge Over 1,000 Schools
Arvind Kejriwal said the proposed comparison would provide an opportunity for the public to see the actual condition of government schools in both states. He challenged the BJP to name 1,000 schools in Gujarat and said Punjab would similarly provide a list of 1,000 schools.
He argued that a transparent joint inspection involving the media and members of the public would offer a clearer picture than political claims or social media videos.
Call to Avoid Misleading School Content
Arvind Kejriwal also alleged that old school videos and digitally manipulated or AI-generated images are being used to create a negative impression of Punjab’s education infrastructure. He urged political parties to avoid such material and focus instead on constructive criticism.
He cited an instance involving a school-related complaint, saying that when shortcomings were highlighted, the Punjab government responded by providing a grant for the concerned school.
Arvind Kejriwal said the government’s intention is to continue improving schools and address genuine problems whenever they are brought to its attention. He reiterated his challenge for a joint inspection of 1,000 schools each in Punjab and Gujarat, saying such an exercise could give the public an opportunity to compare the two states’ government school infrastructure directly.
