AAP leaders in Surat demand scientific disposal of hotfix waste and question SMC notices issued to home-based hotfix units over waste management.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders in Surat held a joint press conference to raise concerns over the growing problem of Surat Hotfix Waste and the notices reportedly issued to small home-based hotfix units. The press conference was attended by AAP Gujarat vice-president Ram Dhaduk, state organisation secretary and corporator Dharmesh Bhanderi, Varachha Assembly in-charge Rajnikant Vagani and Limbayat Assembly in-charge Pankaj Tayde.
The AAP leaders alleged that the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has failed to establish an effective system for the scientific collection and disposal of hotfix and other industrial waste. They demanded that the civic body provide a permanent solution instead of taking steps that could affect the livelihood of families dependent on these small-scale activities.
AAP Questions SMC Over Hotfix Waste Collection
Dharmesh Bhanderi said Surat Hotfix Waste can be seen in several parts of the city, including roads, lanes and areas near schools and gardens. He claimed that waste collection arrangements that had previously been available were discontinued during the last few months, resulting in waste accumulating in public spaces.
According to Bhanderi, door-to-door collection of hotfix waste had earlier been initiated following representations made by AAP when it was the principal opposition party in the Surat Municipal Corporation. He alleged that separate tempos and vehicles used for collecting the waste have now been stopped.
The AAP leader said the lack of collection has created difficulties for residents as well as people involved in the hotfix business.

Dispute Over Notices to Home-Based Units
The issue intensified after AAP workers reportedly dumped hotfix waste outside the mayor’s residence as a form of protest. The party had demanded a scientific disposal mechanism and warned of a larger public movement if the problem was not addressed.
Bhanderi alleged that following the protest, civic officials began visiting home-based hotfix units and issuing notices citing the use of prohibited plastic. He questioned how such material reaches Surat if it is prohibited and asked authorities to clarify the responsibility of port and customs checks.

Bhanderi said the civic administration should focus on solving the waste-management problem rather than simply shutting down small businesses. He argued that many families depend on home-based hotfix and textile-related work for their income.
He also questioned the civic body’s waste-management arrangements for industrial and commercial properties, arguing that businesses paying higher taxes should receive adequate civic services.
The AAP leader said the party would provide legal support to people connected with the hotfix trade if attempts were made to close their businesses without providing an alternative livelihood option.
Ram Dhaduk Seeks 48-Hour Explanation
AAP Gujarat vice-president Ram Dhaduk also criticised the handling of Surat Hotfix Waste and claimed that waste-related problems are visible in areas including Kholvad, Kamrej, Amboli and Gothan.
He alleged that when waste remains uncollected, some of it may be burned, potentially creating smoke-related pollution and increasing the risk of fires in nearby residential and commercial areas.
Dhaduk demanded that the authorities establish a permanent and scientific system for processing the waste. He also called for an explanation within 48 hours on whether the administration intends to address the waste problem or take action that could affect the livelihoods of small businesses.
AAP Warns of Further Protest
The party said it stands with families and workers associated with the hotfix sector and will continue to raise the issue through legal and political channels.
The Surat Hotfix Waste controversy has therefore become a larger debate over waste management, environmental concerns and the livelihood of small home-based businesses.
Dhaduk warned that if the notices issued to hotfix units are not withdrawn or suspended within a week, and if the concerned minister does not provide an explanation, AAP will launch a wider public movement in Surat.
The party has demanded that the SMC address the waste-disposal issue through a sustainable system while ensuring that affected workers and small entrepreneurs are not left without a source of income.
