Arvind Kejriwal claims petrol should cost ₹82 instead of ₹102 per litre and questions government fuel pricing. Know the latest fuel price debate.
Arvind Kejriwal has raised questions over petrol prices in the country, claiming that petrol should be available at around ₹82 per litre instead of the current price of nearly ₹102 per litre. The former Delhi Chief Minister said he would address the issue in a press conference and explain his concerns regarding fuel pricing.
In a post on social media platform X, Arvind Kejriwal alleged that consumers are being charged more for petrol than its actual possible price. He stated that the government should reduce fuel prices and provide relief to the public.
“Today, petrol in our country should be available at ₹82 per litre, whereas the government is charging ₹102 per litre,” Kejriwal said while announcing his scheduled press conference on the matter.
Government’s Stand on Possible Petrol and Diesel Price Cut
Arvind Kejriwal’s statement comes after Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri spoke about the possibility of a reduction in petrol and diesel prices.
The minister had said that if international crude oil prices remain stable at the current levels for the next few weeks, a reduction in retail fuel prices could become a valid demand. However, he added that it would be too early to predict an immediate price cut.
Puri explained that oil marketing companies had earlier faced financial pressure due to selling petrol, diesel and LPG at prices below their costs. According to him, companies had absorbed losses and under-recoveries worth ₹74,781 crore to protect consumers from global price fluctuations.
आज हमारे देश में पेट्रोल 82 रुपए प्रति लीटर मिलना चाहिए जबकि सरकार हमसे 102 रुपए प्रति लीटर ले रही है।

Crude Oil Prices Key Factor Behind Fuel Rates
Fuel prices in India are influenced by several factors, including international crude oil prices, currency exchange rates, taxes and pricing decisions taken by oil marketing companies.
The government has maintained that any decision regarding petrol and diesel price reductions depends on global market conditions and the overall financial situation of oil companies.
Government Defends E20 Ethanol Blending Programme
During the same interaction, Hardeep Singh Puri also defended the government’s ethanol blending initiative, particularly the use of E20 fuel. He dismissed concerns regarding possible vehicle-related issues and said that the programme was introduced after discussions with automobile industry organisations.
The Arvind Kejriwal said that organisations including Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) were consulted before implementing the transition.
He also stated that insurance companies have clarified there are no major concerns related to vehicles using E20 fuel.
Petrol Price Debate Intensifies
The latest remarks by Arvind Kejriwal have once again brought the issue of fuel prices into political discussion. While the AAP leader has demanded relief for consumers, the government has linked any possible price reduction to global crude oil trends and market conditions.
The debate over petrol prices is expected to continue as consumers closely watch whether any changes are announced in the coming weeks.
