CPI MP P Sandosh Kumar also objected to the reported use of the term “lungiwala” against John Brittas while he was addressing the House.

Kumar said India’s cultural diversity should be celebrated rather than turned into a source of political confrontation. He alleged that political differences were increasingly being expressed through references to a person’s colour, clothing and food.

Congress MP Criticises Remark on South Indian Culture

Congress MP Christopher Tilak also criticised the reported comment, describing it as an insult to South Indian culture.

Tilak argued that the issue went beyond clothing and alleged that the incident reflected an attitude towards regions outside the Hindi-speaking belt.

The controversy followed comments by John Brittas in the Rajya Sabha, where he alleged that another member repeatedly called him “lungi-wala” while he was speaking.
