AAP Chandigarh held a massive LPG price hike protest at Sector-17 Plaza against the Modi government, alleging artificial shortage of gas cylinders and rising cooking gas prices affecting common households.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) organized a large LPG Price Hike Protest in Chandigarh on Sunday, accusing the Central government of allowing soaring LPG prices and creating what it described as an “artificial shortage” of domestic gas cylinders in the city.
The protest took place at the busy Sector-17 Plaza near Neelam Cinema, where hundreds of AAP workers and local residents gathered to voice their anger against the government over rising cooking gas costs. During the LPG Price Hike Protest, demonstrators raised slogans criticizing the policies of the central leadership and demanded immediate intervention to reduce the price of cylinders.
AAP Targets Centre Over Rising Prices
Addressing the crowd, party leaders alleged that the government, led by Narendra Modi, has failed to control inflation and protect ordinary households from the burden of rising fuel costs. They claimed that the price of domestic LPG cylinders has crossed the ₹1000 mark in many places, putting additional pressure on middle-class families and women who manage household kitchens.
Speakers at the LPG Price Hike Protest also accused the government of halting gas supply in certain areas, which they described as a deliberate move creating an “artificial shortage.” According to the party, the shortage has forced many households to wait longer for cylinder refills despite paying higher prices.
Criticism of Past Political Promises
AAP leaders also referenced earlier political campaigns when opposition leaders had protested against LPG prices. They questioned the silence of former union minister Smriti Irani, recalling past demonstrations against rising fuel costs.
During the LPG Price Hike Protest, speakers argued that the situation highlights a contrast between previous promises and current policies. They alleged that while the government once criticized high fuel prices, it has now allowed LPG costs to rise significantly without providing adequate relief to consumers.

Warning of Larger Agitation
AAP leaders warned that the LPG Price Hike Protest was only the beginning of a larger agitation if the government does not take immediate steps to reduce prices and restore smooth gas cylinder supply in the city.
They said the party would expand protests across the region if the issue remains unresolved, adding that public anger over inflation and essential commodity prices continues to grow.
Leaders and Workers Participate
Several party leaders and workers attended the demonstration, including former Mayor Kuldeep Kumar, Councillor Hardeep Singh, General Secretary Sunny Aulakh, Anju Katyal, Yogesh Dhingra, Jasbir Singh Laddi, Shadab Rathi, Lalit Mohan, Mewa Ram and State Media In-Charge Vikrant A. Tanwar. Local residents and party volunteers also joined the LPG Price Hike Protest, raising slogans and demanding relief from rising LPG costs.
The protest concluded with party leaders reiterating their demand for price control and improved gas supply management, stating that affordable cooking fuel remains a basic necessity for millions of Indian households.
