Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, while inaugurating the World Skill Campus of Excellence—featuring a newly renovated Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and a Multi-Skill Development Centre (MSDC)—stated that after three years of clearing the mismanagement left by previous governments, his administration is now focused on restoring Punjab’s former glory.
CM Bhagwant Singh criticized earlier regimes for regressive policies that stunted development, allowed drug mafias and gangsters to thrive, and left the industry in decline. Since taking office, he said, his government has prioritized holistic development and the welfare of the people.
CM Bhagwant Singh emphasized that his government has fulfilled nearly all its promises and even delivered on some not originally pledged. While the central government continues to raise toll charges, Punjab has shut down 17 toll plazas. A strategic roadmap has also been implemented to advance all sectors.
Addressing environmental concerns, CM Bhagwant Singh said that 117 out of 153 blocks had fallen into the “dark zone” due to depleting groundwater levels. Previous governments ignored this issue, leaving farmers without irrigation. In response, the AAP government has revived over 15,900 water channels, ensuring water reaches even the most remote villages.
Highlighting welfare initiatives, CM Bhagwant Singh said 90% of households are now receiving free electricity, and for the first time, the state has purchased a private thermal power plant—now renamed in honor of Guru Amar Dass Ji—to ensure energy self-sufficiency.
CM Bhagwant Singh stressed that communal harmony and peace are the foundations of Punjab’s progress. As a result of investor-friendly policies and robust infrastructure, the state has attracted investments worth nearly ₹97,000 crore from major companies like Tata Steel and Sanatan Textiles.
To tackle unemployment and drug addiction, CM Bhagwant Singh said the government aims to create jobs and replace syringes with tiffins in the hands of youth. Over 55,000 government jobs have already been provided. He added that a strong crackdown on the drug mafia is underway, with major traffickers arrested and their properties seized. A public helpline (9779100200) has been launched to report drug-related activities, with complete anonymity assured.
CM Bhagwant Singh acknowledged the immense potential of Punjab’s youth and vowed to provide them with the tools and opportunities to succeed, likening them to planes ready for takeoff. He urged them to stay humble, work hard, and build their futures within the state.
The newly inaugurated Skill Campus, spread over 20 acres, will offer advanced technical training to over 3,000 students, including courses in robotics, 3D printing, and CNC machines. Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney played a key role in its development, contributing ₹2 crore from MPLAD funds and ₹70 lakh personally.
The Multi-Skill Development Centre, once neglected, will now offer free training in high-demand areas like AI, hospitality, agriculture, beauty and wellness, nursing, and more—fully accredited by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). Mann said this center will meet the dual goal of supplying skilled labor to industries and creating new job opportunities for youth.
Cabinet Ministers Harjot Singh Bains, Tarunpreet Singh Sondh, and MPs Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney and Sanjeev Arora were also present at the event.
