I PREVAIL Moves Forward Without Brian Burkheiser, New Music on the Way
Platinum-certified, Grammy-nominated rock band I PREVAIL has officially announced the departure of founding vocalist Brian Burkheiser after a decade-long run with the group. The Michigan-based band shared the news via social media, emphasizing that the split was mutual and made with “gratitude for the 10 epic years we shared together.”

Brian Burkheiser, who has long been the band’s clean vocalist, had been forced to step back from live performances in recent years due to his ongoing battle with Eagle’s syndrome. The rare condition, caused by an elongated styloid process or calcified ligament, results in chronic throat and neck pain, often radiating to the ear. In his absence, co-vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe and guitarist Dylan Bowman stepped in to fill the void during live performances.
The Band’s Statement
In the official statement released on May 15, I PREVAIL said:
“Today we share that we are mutually parting ways with Brian Burkheiser. This was a difficult decision, but we believe it is the right one and we are all grateful for the 10 epic years we shared together. We wish Brian nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors.”
They went on to assure fans that Eric will continue as the lead frontman, supported by Dylan, and promised that the band’s high-energy shows and setlist of fan favorites will remain unchanged.
“Rest assured, we will continue to deliver the high-energy shows that we’ve made a pillar of our band… All scheduled shows will go on exactly as planned. New music coming soon.”
A Legacy of Success
Brian Burkheiser’s departure marks the end of an era for I PREVAIL, who first rose to fame with their metalcore-meets-alt-rock sound and emotionally raw lyrics. The band achieved major success with their 2022 album True Power via Fearless Records, followed by a sold-out North American tour.
In 2024, they released an expanded version of True Power, featuring the new single “Hate This Song” with All Time Low, alongside reimagined versions of “Bad Things,” “Deep End,” and “There’s Fear In Letting Go.”
I PREVAIL was previously nominated for two Grammys — “Best Rock Album” (Trauma) and “Best Metal Performance” (“Bow Down”) — and scored a No. 1 with “Hurricane” on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in 2020. Their music continues to earn critical praise and commercial success, with multiple RIAA certifications and features in Forbes, Billboard, NPR, and The Hollywood Reporter.
