Punjab launches Intensified IEC Campaign 3.0 in Patiala to boost HIV/AIDS awareness, promote prevention and reduce stigma, says Dr Balbir Singh.
The Punjab AIDS Control Society has launched Intensified IEC Campaign 3.0 in Patiala with a focus on strengthening public awareness about HIV and AIDS, promoting preventive measures and reducing stigma associated with the disease.
Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh addressed the state-level programme and highlighted the importance of providing people with accurate information about HIV/AIDS. He also urged representatives from the medical sector to take awareness efforts to a wider section of society.
Focus on Information and Prevention
Speaking at the event, Dr Balbir Singh stressed that Intensified IEC Campaign 3.0 will play an important role in spreading reliable information about HIV/AIDS and encouraging people to adopt preventive measures.
He said awareness and precaution remain among the most effective ways to protect people from HIV and AIDS. The minister called upon healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to ensure that correct information reaches people in an easy and effective manner.
Stigma Around HIV/AIDS Has Reduced
Dr Balbir Singh said that discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS has reduced significantly compared with the past. According to him, greater awareness has helped create a more supportive environment for people affected by the disease.
He further said that AIDS patients are increasingly coming forward and living their lives more openly. Reducing social stigma, he noted, is an important part of creating a society where affected people can access healthcare and support without fear or discrimination.
Medical Representatives Asked to Expand Awareness
The Intensified IEC Campaign 3.0 also seeks greater participation from medical professionals and representatives associated with the healthcare sector.
Dr Balbir Singh encouraged them to actively contribute to awareness programmes and help communicate preventive information to the public. He said collective efforts are necessary to ensure that HIV/AIDS awareness reaches more people across Punjab.
