Minister Tarunpreet Singh : Tourism becomes a focal point in Punjab.
Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond : Punjab, under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is witnessing a significant transformation in tourism and cultural preservation. Tourism Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond highlighted that in 2024, the state government allocated approximately 73 crore for restoring, modernizing, and preserving historical and cultural monuments. This investment has revitalized key heritage sites and launched several initiatives to boost tourism.
As Punjab enters 2025, its fairs and festivals are set to be celebrated on a grander scale, attracting tourists from around the world. The year began with vibrant events like the Basant Mela in Ferozepur and the renowned Rural Olympics in Kila Raipur. Adding to the festivities, the Patiala Heritage Festival, scheduled from February 13 to 16, promises an exciting lineup of activities, including heritage walks, a food festival, music evenings, an aero show, a nature walk, a flower show, and a fashion walk. Organized by the Patiala district administration in collaboration with the Tourism Department, the festival aims to showcase Punjab’s rich traditions and establish the state as a leading tourist destination.
Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond emphasized that under CM Mann’s dynamic leadership, Punjab is reclaiming its status as a premier travel hotspot. The government’s commitment to heritage conservation and tourism development has resulted in transformative projects that highlight Punjab’s deep-rooted history, vibrant culture, and spiritual significance.
The 73 crore investment in 2024 has already delivered impressive results, restoring historical landmarks such as the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Museum at Khatkar Kalan and the Saragarhi Museum in Ferozepur. Extensive renovations have also been carried out at Sarai Lashkari Khan in Khanna. Additionally, the Bhagwan Valmiki Ji Panorama was inaugurated with great grandeur, and a permanent light and sound show at Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s Summer Palace in Amritsar has become a major attraction during the Rangla Punjab Festival.
In a significant step toward preserving Sikh heritage, the government has initiated the restoration of Jahaz Haveli, the historic residence of Dewan Todar Mall in Fatehgarh Sahib. Minister Sond emphasized the importance of safeguarding the legacy of Dewan Todar Mall, a key figure in Sikh history.
Punjab’s dedication to cultural and rural tourism has also gained national recognition. Nawanpind Sardaran in Gurdaspur was named India’s Best Tourism Village in 2023, while Hansali Farmstay in Fatehgarh Sahib received top honors in the Agri-Tourism category in 2024.
With a perfect blend of heritage restoration, cultural celebrations, and modern tourism initiatives, Punjab is reclaiming its legacy as a land of legends, festivals, and timeless traditions.
