AAP leader Pravin Ram blamed the Gujarat Government for the South Gujarat flood crisis and demanded ₹1 crore compensation for victims’ families.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Gujarat leader Pravin Ram has strongly criticised the Gujarat Government over the recent flood situation in South Gujarat, alleging that administrative failures and poor monsoon preparedness have resulted in widespread destruction and loss of lives.
Speaking at a press conference in Surat, Pravin Ram said the heavy rainfall that affected Surat, Valsad and nearby districts exposed serious lapses in planning and urban management. He claimed that more than 50 people lost their lives due to what he described as the government’s failure to carry out effective pre-monsoon preparations.
AAP Questions Government’s Response
Pravin Ram said he personally visited families who lost loved ones during the floods and expressed condolences. He questioned why senior government leaders had not yet met the affected families despite the scale of the tragedy.
He also criticised the administration for allegedly failing to provide immediate relief and support to those who suffered losses during the flooding.
Calls for Compensation and Immediate Survey
The AAP leader demanded that the Gujarat Government conduct an immediate survey of all flood-affected areas and provide financial assistance to residents, farmers, traders and business owners who suffered losses.
Among the key demands made by Pravin Ram were:
₹1 crore financial assistance for the families of those who died in the floods.
Compensation for damaged homes, shops, factories and agricultural land.
A compensation package for farmers similar to Punjab’s reported assistance of ₹50,000 per hectare.
Direct transfer of relief funds into beneficiaries’ bank accounts to ensure transparency.

Alleges Poor Urban Planning
Pravin Ram claimed that the flood situation was not entirely natural but largely the result of administrative negligence.
According to him, encroachments around drainage channels, lack of proper cleaning of natural waterways and irregular approvals for construction projects have worsened waterlogging in several parts of South Gujarat.
He alleged that poor planning and corruption in urban development approvals had blocked natural water flow, contributing to severe flooding.
Permanent Flood Management Measures Sought
AAP leaders also called for long-term flood management measures instead of temporary monsoon arrangements.
The party stated that its local representatives had submitted written recommendations to authorities regarding improved drainage systems and water diversion plans to reduce future flooding risks.
Protest Warning
Pravin Ram warned that if the Gujarat Government does not announce relief measures and meet the affected families within one week, the Aam Aadmi Party will launch a democratic protest demanding compensation and accountability.
He said the party would continue to raise the issue until adequate support reaches flood victims and corrective measures are implemented to prevent similar disasters in the future.
