Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday officially launched the first phase of Census 2027 at the Chief Minister’s residence in Lucknow. The launch marked the beginning of the nationwide house listing and housing enumeration exercise under the upcoming census process.
During the event, the Chief Minister described the census as a crucial step toward strengthening development planning and ensuring data-driven governance. He stated that accurate population data forms the backbone of inclusive and effective policy-making.
The Yogi Adityanath launch Census 2027 initiative introduces a fully digital system for the first time, aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and accuracy in data collection. The process will be conducted in two phases, beginning with house listing and followed by individual enumeration.
Citizens have also been given the option of self-enumeration between May 7 and May 21, 2026, allowing them to digitally submit their personal information directly.
CM Yogi Highlights First-Time Caste Enumeration and Inclusion of Forest Villages in Census 2027
CM Yogi highlighted that this census will also include caste-based enumeration for the first time, along with the inclusion of forest villages to ensure broader coverage of all communities.
He emphasized that the data collected will play a key role in shaping policies related to education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social welfare, ensuring that development benefits reach every section of society.

The large-scale exercise will cover all 18 divisions, 75 districts, 350 tehsils, 17 municipal corporations, 745 urban bodies, 57,694 gram panchayats, and around 1.04 lakh revenue villages in Uttar Pradesh. Over 5.25 lakh personnel have been deployed for the operation.
A dedicated digital portal has also been launched to ensure transparency and real-time monitoring of the census process up to the village and ward level.
CM Yogi urged citizens to actively participate in the census and provide accurate information, calling it a national responsibility and a key step toward building a stronger, data-driven future for India.
